Arc Browser - Shiny New Thing Syndrome

PermalinkYou probably shouldn't use Arc.
Arc Browser just released their Windows Version, which got me to think about it again. To be honest, I don’t particularly like Arc. I also don’t think anyone should actually be using it. Let me explain why.
First things first, lets get the elephant in the room out of the way: It’s another chromium browser. That alone should be enough to completely disregard it if you’re privacy conscious. But thats by far from the only reason.
In my opinion, Arc is kind of disaster waiting to happen. Yes, the product is great, right now.
But let’s look at the facts: It’s closed source and it requires you to sign in with an account. I don’t care what you say, there’s no reason any sane person would use arc over even something like brave, which at least is open source. Also, “The Browser Company”, the people developing Arc currently do not make any money from Arc, or any other products for that matter, which is also incredibly suspicious. I can ensure you, give it maybe 3 or so years and they will either start collecting all your data (if they aren’t already doing that), or they will introduce some incredibly overpricded subscription service and start locking basic features behind it.
Don’t trust a company that has every possible incentive to screw you over.
Hey, the browser looks nice, so there’s that. Still, go and use Librewolf or at least Brave, if you really can’t stomach not using something Chromium based.
