Website Updates and the Indie Web

PermalinkWe're back, now with support for some Microformats!
As you might have noticed if you have eyes: This site looks a lot different now!
That’s because I’ve switched over to Astro Blog instead of Deno Blog.
There’s one big reason for that: Extensibility!
Deno Blog is just one big package that you import. Because of that, there’s not really much customization to be done. At first, that was fine because I just needed something up and running after this place had been down for literal months because of expansehost, but I do want to do more with this place.
So, that’s why I switched to Astro’s Blog template. It’s literally perfect for what I want: It’s really extensible, because you can… yknow, actually edit the code, but it still gives really nice defaults.
Anyways, the main reason I made the switch now is because of the Indieweb. Basically, it’s a bunch of web standards that help websites communicate with each other. It also lets me log into places using this website. Fun! I’ll be honest, I don’t really have any practical reason for supporting it, I just wanted to see if I could. Turns out: yes, it’s pretty easy. As a bonus, the sites design is a whole lot prettier now and we’ve got some cool new features. I can set thumbnails for blog posts now! Also, tags! …Well, not quite. Right now they’re purely visual, so you can’t sort by them yet. Soon they’ll actually do something useful though!
Now that everything is set up I might post about some Indieweb stuff on here. I haven’t really explored any of the blogs that are on here, so who knows! Maybe there’s something interesting! There’s one thing thats missing from my implementation though, I can’t reply to stuff yet. I’ll add that once the need to do so actually comes up. Webmentions work though! Only I can see them right now, I’ll see whether or not I wanna change that. For now, they’re private.
Anyways, that’s it for today! I’ll cya next time!
